Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman will be travelling to Scotland this weekend as filming on their new movie begins in Edinburgh on Monday. The actors are both starring in ‘The Railway Man’. The film tells the story of Eric Lomax, a Scottish man who is haunted by his memories of his time in a prisoner of war camp working on the Thai/Burma railway during the Second World War. It is based on Lomax’s book of the same name, which tells of his suffering on the Burma railway and how, with the help of his wife, he travelled back to Asia to meet one of his torturers in an attempt let go of a lifetime of bitterness and hate. Colin Firth has said that he felt a ‘little overwhelmed’ by the enormity of the story. Filming will take place in Edinburgh and North Berwick in Scotland as well as in Thailand. Nicole Kidman is looking forward to returning to Scotland as she visited when she was 18 and travelled throughout the highlands.
