Coll Bids for Dark Isle Status

The beautiful island of Coll on the west coast of Scotland is bidding to become Scotland’s first ‘dark skies’ island. The initiative would see Coll join Galloway Forest Park in the south of Scotland as a dark sky zone. The island has no street lights and very little light pollution. Locals on the island believe that it will help boost tourism to the island as they often receive clear skies meaning the island could become a hotspot for astronomers. The Northern Lights can often be seen on the island as can the Milky Way.
